California Fire Update

There have been several fires in California recently that have effected many residents and fellow RV parks.  Our hearts go out to all who have had to leave their homes or lost their homes to these fires.

That being said...  We have been fortunate to not have been effected by any of the fires and want you to know that YES, WE ARE STILL OPEN!! Many have stayed away out of fear of fires but the fires that are still burning are pretty far away and have not and are not expected to effect us.

We would love to welcome you, your family or your group to our park to enjoy every last ounce of summer possible.  We are also open during the fall and the changing leaves would make a great backdrop for your last camping trip of the year. Contact us at (530) 664-3187 to reserve your site today!

Nearby Activities

One of the most appealing parts of camping at Hawks Nest is the seclusion and tranquility that our campground provides.  But often, people want to find activities and excursions nearby to indulge in during their stay.  We have a wide variety of activities around here, and we love helping our campers figure out which activities may be right for them!

Here at the campground, we have horseshoes and some excellent wildlife watching, a large campfire (we provide the wood, lighting, maintaining and final dead-out) where our guests like to gather and share stories, and a swing set for the kids.

Nearby (within 20-30 miles), we have so many activities!  Here's a quick list:
  • Tulelake Wildlife Refuge
  • Clear Lake Wildlife Refuge
  • Medicine Lake
  • Golfing
  • Trap Shooting
  • Forest fire lookout
  • Japanese Internment Camp
  • Tulelake-Butte Fair (this year in early September -- camp with us and get 10% off)
  • Deer hunting (we have Mule Deer and we sit in the Western Deer Migration wintering ground)
  • Bird hunting
  • Lava Beds NM
  • Hiking and exploration
  • Restaurants (we love Captain Jacks Stronghold -- homemade bread, pies and good eats!)
If you are planning your vacation with us and would like any information on the nearby attractions, or help in deciding what is right for you, please let us know!  We're happy to help!

Meet Our Camp Hosts

What fun is a campground without camp hosts?  We think we have the best camp hosts around!  Meet Molly, our Australian Shepherd, and Rocky the cat.  They are our faithful partners, and love spending their time keeping our campers company and protecting them from mice.  If you see them around, be sure to say hello!

Our Awesome Campers

There are many wonderful aspects of running a campground.  The peace and tranquility in our everyday lives, the fun outdoor activities that surround us, the improvement projects that give us great satisfaction.  But our favorite part of being here is the ability to meet and interact with so many incredible people.  Many of our campers have returned year after year, and we consider them our friends.  It is often sad for us when we've had campers stop through en route to a fabulous adventure, and we know we wont see them again, but will forever remember their stories, their adventures and their dreams.

Tom and Judy Vincent are a couple of our returning friends.  They have been coming to Hawks Nest since the early 70's (more than 40 years!) and have stayed in cabin #2 every time.  In fact, cabin #2 has their name on it!
Tom is an avid hunter.  Judy enjoys the fishing and relaxing.  The Vincents live in Fort Bragg and visit about four or five times a year, usually staying a couple of weeks at a time.  They enjoy relaxing, playing cards, fishing at Medicine Lake, and visiting with old friends up here.  Both Tom and Judy are retired and love taking advantage of the relaxation time in their lives.  We love when they come up and visit -- we learn so much about the history of the park and the surrounding area.  They are truly special people to us -- not just great customers, but friends that we will cherish forever!
